Yesteryear Collection

Originally scheduled to appear in May 1989, it wasn't until August 1989 that the (Y23-2) 1930 AC Mack Tanker did finally arrive. Initially the appearance was spoilt by the twin rear wheels being too wide and many designs of wheel were made before the R&D Department were satisfied with the general appearance. However, several models were found, mainly in Belgium and Australia, fitted with final pre-production front wheels, Type 1 (hub pattern 12 mm wide with 8 ribs), which had not been intended to be fitted to production models.
The normal production red wheels, Type 2 (hub pattern 10.5 mm wide with larger relief to hub centre), for this model were also used for the (Y9-4) Leyland Cub Fire Engine.
It is unknown why gold plated effect wheels were fitted. These had been fitted to pre-production (Y9-4) Leyland Cub Fire Engines but were deemed too garish for production models. By mistake, several sets of these 'gold' wheels, instead of being scrapped, were used up on Texaco and later Conoco models.

Collectors were most impressed with the extensive amount of diecast metal used in the manufacture of the tanker which felt heavy and substantial.

All baseplates had Y23 cast.

Total production was 50.076.

Livery: (Tampo)
'TEXACO' above 'PETROLEUM PRODUCTS' and 'MADE BY THE TEXAS COMPANY USA' and two Texaco logos in white circles, on both sides of tank panels.
'THE TEXAS COMPANY' and Texaco logo in white circles on both cab doors.
Mack logo in black and white on front of bonnet.
'TEXACO' and Texaco logo in white on rear tank door panel.

Variations/Rarities: Some have been found with 12mm (Type 1) wide front hub centres. These are preproduction hubs as 10.5mm (Type2) is the usual size.
